Introduction
es imposible separar el cuerpo de su entorno. la tierra puede prescindir de nosotros, pero nosotros no podemos prescindir de la tierra. Mi preocupación por la ecología y la precariedad de los recursos naturales, como el agua, me ha llevado a desarrollar un corpus de trabajo relacionado con este preciado recurso. fui invitada por el artista michael tracy a formar parte de su idea "river pierce: sacrifice II. 13. 4. 90. ", una acción colaborativa y procesión binacional que tuvo lugar el viernes santo en la orilla norte del río grande en san ygnacio, texas.
el río grande no solo es una manifestación de negligencia flagrante, sino que también se ha convertido en el lugar de descanso de miles de trabajadores migrantes de méxico, centro y sud américa que intentan cruzar a nado estas aguas peligrosas todas las noches, a menudo con consecuencias trágicas. las siguientes imágenes son reproducciones escaneadas de mi performance, extraídas del catálogo de river pierce y fotografiadas por: graciela iturbide, keith carter carter,david crossley, oweena fogarty, michael mohun.
it is impossible to separate the body from the environment. the earth can do without us but we can't do without the earth. my concern for ecology and the precariousness of natural resources such as water, has led me to develop a body of work relating to this precious resource. i was invited by artist michael tracy to be part of the river pierce: sacrifice II, 13.4.90, a collaborative action and binational procession that took place on good friday on the northern bank of the rio grande in san ygnacio, texas.
the rio grande is not only a manifestation of gross negligence but has become the resting place for thousand of migrant workers from mexico and central america who try to swim across the dangerous waters every night often with tragic consequences. the following images are scanned reproductions of my performance, lifted from the river pierce catalogue and photographed by: graciela iturbide, keith carter, david crossley, oweena fogarty, michael mohun.
